So you're nervous for your headshot session...

So you’re nervous for your photo session. Understandable. It can be intimidating. It’s not every day you have a ginormous camera pointed in your face with fancy lights all around you.

It’s a weird experience, I understand.
Sometimes life presents us with a few weird experiences.

HOWEVER…
Every time I’ve decided to jump in with both feet and commit to the process, (comfortable or not), it usually ends up better than expected.
When I do that, I get SO MUCH MORE out of the experience.
I end up being grateful that I took a leap of faith to give it my all, even though I was uncomfortable.

So, if you’re nervous, I understand. I’ll be here to encourage you and guide you along the way. We’re going to get excited about this together! Pump yourself up for the good time you’re about to have!

This mentality can be applied everywhere in life, not just photography. Whatever you do in life, commit to the process and have a good attitude.

You can do this!

TOP 10 TIPS FOR YOUR NEXT HEADSHOT

Whether you use me to update your headshot or someone else, here are my top 10 tips for your next headshot session.

Top-10.png

Whether you use me to update your headshot or someone else, here are my top 10 tips for your next headshot session.

  1. Wait a few days after getting a haircut before your headshot session

  2. Stick with solid colors, avoid patterns

  3. This is case by case, but typically caucasian skin looks a little “off” against reds and burnt oranges in clothing.  Cooler tones and neutral tones capture better on camera

  4. Need a better wardrobe? Shop what you’d like to wear, but keep the tags on. After the session, return it. Or…keep it! You’ve got a new “something” that you feel great in

  5. Guys—if you normally grow a beard, but are thinking you want a headshot clean shaven, bring your shave kit and lose the beard halfway through the session!

  6. Girls—makeup. If you’re doing your own makeup and not using a makeup artist, start very minimal and add as the session progresses (More tips on preparation here)

  7. Shiny skin? Use this mattifying gel to tone it down

  8. Headshots are typically from the shoulders and up. Wear some comfortable bottoms. Slippers & sweatpants are A-Okay! 👍

  9. Own it! YOU are a professional! You gotta believe it and believe in yourself. If you’re getting a headshot it means you have clients that look to you for answers. Your new headshot should show confidence and approachability

  10. HAVE FUN! You’re about to enter into a really fun space, and you should enjoy every moment of it. If you’re nervous, I have another blogpost coming soon. I’ll link it in here when it’s published.

Why you NEED a killer headshot

Paul Hanon Premier Headshots

How quickly do you scroll through your Instagram feed?
How about your Facebook feed?
Twitter feed?
Or any other social network feed?
How many titles do you click on that end up being “click bait” and a waste of time?

EVERYONE is vying for your attention and will do what they can to capture your attention for just 1 second…and then hopefully in that 1 second, there’s enough content/material to keep your attention for another second, and another….etc.

Having a killer headshot turns you from the consumer—who would click on some click bait—to a creator…or business person…or entrepreneur. It gives you a platform as a professional in your field. People will stop at your photo and say, “DANG! Thats a great photo!” And you’ve just captured someone’s attention…I don’t know…3x as much as a simple click bait title. They may even comment about your amazing photo…* ahem * algorithm boost?

Having a killer headshot is important. I can help with that! I LOVE doing this and would love to work with you. Check out more of my content on any of my social media outlets.
